Netflix has officially renewed 3 Body Problem for a second season.
The mind-bending sci-fi drama from David Benioff and DB Weiss (Game of Thrones) and Alexander Woo (The Terror, True Blood)
Based on the bestselling novels by Cixin Liu, the mystery thriller sees a young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberate across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.
The series spent three weeks at No 1 on Netflix and seven weeks in the Top 10, following its debut in March. Now, Netflix has confirmed that Benioff, Weiss, and Woo will reuniting to continue telling the story – and will do so through to its conclusion. That means at least a second season of the drama – and an unconfirmed number of future seasons and episodes, which Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria confirmed will be revealed at a later date.
“The extraordinary 3 Body Problem, brought to life with the deft hands of Benioff, Weiss and Woo will soar to never-before-seen heights as they tackle the rest of the mind-blowing journey through Death’s End,” said Peter Friedlander, Vice President, Scripted Series (US & Canada), Netflix. “Their brilliant vision as storytellers is matched by their amazing partnership — and, just like the fans, we can’t wait to see what they have in store.”
“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” said Benioff, Weiss, and Woo. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”
