Trailer: BritBox to reveal Secrets of the Krays
David Farnor | On 13, May 2021
BritBox is getting into the non-fiction game this May, with the debut of its first original factual commission: a docuseries about two of the most famous gangsters in British history.
Secrets of the Krays will take an in-depth look at Ronnie and Reggie Kray, and how the twins brought together the West End of the swinging 60s with the underworld of the East End. The series will feature interviews with those who knew the Krays best, including former gang members, relatives and family friends, as well as celebrity photographer and friend David Bailey, the Krays’ lawyers, and police officers involved in bringing them to justice.
Many have never spoken before – including Micky Fawcett who was a key member of “the firm” from its early days. The documentary will also unveil never-before-seen artefacts, including Reggie’s personal scrapbook documenting the brothers’ crimes, Reggie’s personal photographs, audio recordings from prison, a poem from Ronnie to Reggie, and two unpublished manuscripts from former gang members – as well MI5 files on the Krays.
The three-part series is produced by ITN Productions, and executive produced by Ian Rumsey and Nathaniel Lippiett. It will premiere on BritBox on 13th May, joining The Beast Must Die, BritBox’s first original drama commission, which also premieres this month.
