“I killed a woman the other night. I didn’t feel any guilt.” That’s Miles Teller in Too Old to Die Young, the new series from Nicolas Winding Refn, and a new trailer gives us a first look at the crime drama.
Described as being in a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy, which followed criminals caught up in Denmark’s drug trade, the programme comprises 10 90-minute episodes and explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles, charting the existential journey of several characters, as they transform from killers to samurais. Too Old to Die Young is co-written with Ed Brubaker (Captain America: Winter Soldier, Westworld) and sees Teller joined by an impressive ensemble, including John Hawkes, Jena Malone, William Baldwin, Carlotta Montanari, Celestino Cornielle and Babs Olusanmokun.
The series premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 14th June. Here’s the video, complete with blood, synth music and lots of pink lighting:

Billy Baldwin, Jena Malone, John Hawkes join Nicolas Winding Refn’s Amazon series
22nd November 2017
Billy Baldwin, Jena Malone, John Hawkes have all joined the cast of Too Old to Die Young, Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming Amazon series.
Commissioned by the online giant this spring, Too Old to Die Young marks the Drive director’s first TV project. Described as being in a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy, which followed criminals caught up in Denmark’s drug trade, the 10-episode programme will explore the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles, charting the existential journey of several characters, as they transform from killers to samurais.
Too Old to Die Young is co-written with Ed Brubaker (Captain America: Winter Soldier, Westworld) and boasts some equally exciting names in front of the camera. Those are led by Miles Teller, who was cast earlier this year as Martin, a police officer who is caught up in the City of Angel’s world of assassins.
Now, Nicolas Winding Refn has unveiled his full cast, and the names continue to impress. Baldwin is known for his roles in Flatliners, Gossip Girl, The Squid and the Whale and many more – including an upcoming recurring role on CBS’ MacGyver. Malone, who stole scenes repeatedly in The Hunger Games franchise, is reuniting with Winding Refn, after starring in The Neon Demon. Winters Bone and The Sessions star Hawkes, meanwhile, is no stranger to Amazon, after leading their pilot for The Legend of Master Legend earlier this year.
The character details for Baldwin, Malone and Hawkes are all being kept closely guarded, but we do know that they are joined by Cristina Rodlo, Augusto Aguilera, Nell Tiger Free, Babs Olusanmokun and Callie Hernandez.
Filming began on The Old to Die Young earlier this month.
Miles Teller to star in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Amazon series
28th March 2017
Miles Teller will star in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Amazon series.
Commissioned by the online giant last month, Too Old to Die Young marks the Drive director’s first TV project. Described as being in a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy, which followed criminals caught up in Denmark’s drug trade, the 10-episode programme will explore the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles, charting the existential journey of several characters, as they transform from killers to samurais.
Too Old to Die Young is co-written with Ed Brubaker (Captain America: Winter Soldier, Westworld), and will begin shooting this autumn.
Teller will play the lead in the drama: Martin, a police officer who is caught up in the City of Angel’s world of assassins.
The actor, who comes to the series after turns in Whiplash and Bleed for This, joins Refn in becoming the latest in a long line of impressive names Amazon has lined up for its original projects. Indeed, Variety reported yesterday that Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins will head to Amazon next to make a new TV show, based on The Underground Railroad.
“I’m a huge fan of Nic’s work, so the opportunity to work with him, and for a company like Amazon, with this type of material is very exciting,” Teller said.
Too Old To Die Young: Nicolas Winding Refn to make Amazon TV series
9th February 2017
Nicolas Winding Refn is heading to the small screen, with a new TV series for Amazon.
The Drive and Bronson director is teaming up with the streaming service for the Los Angeles crime thriller, which is called Too Old to Die Young.
The combination of TV, crime and the man behind The Neon Demon is an all-too-tantalising prospect for NWR fans, so it comes as little surprise that Amazon gave a straight-to-series order for the project, bypassing its usual pilot system.
Variety broke the news, with sources describing the project to the publication as “in a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy”, which followed criminals caught up in Denmark’s drug trade. The 10-episode series will explore the criminal underbelly of the City of Angels, charting the existential journey of several characters, as they transform from killers to samurais.
Refn is co-writing with Ed Brubaker, who will be an executive producer on the programme. The writer, who has worked on Batman and Captain America graphic novels, as well as crime comics, comes to the project fresh from being a supervising producer and writer on the first season of HBO’s Westworld.
Refn, meanwhile, needs little introduction, with films such as Only God Forgives propelling the Dane into the mainstream spotlight and The Neon Demon premiering to divisive reaction in Cannes last year. It marks something of a reunion for Refn an Amazon, with the online giant picking up the exclusive US rights to Demon. This is not the first time Amazon has lured a star filmmaker from the big screen to the small screen, with Woody Allen making a similar leap last year. In the coming 12 months, Amazon Studios is working with A-listers such as Julianne Moore, Robert DeNiro and David O. Russell, as well as Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, who will make a new series for Amazon.
Like Allen, Too Old to Die Young marks Refn’s first TV series. He will direct and produce the show. Shooting will begin this autumn.
