The Muppets’ new TV series is coming to Sky this autumn.
The ABC Studios mockumentary, which documents the ups and downs of the Muppets’ day-to-day lives as they prepare to reunite for a new TV series, has been snapped up by Sky 1 for UK audiences.
The show, in typical post-modern Muppets style, takes viewers behind the scenes of the new project. The personal lives of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and co. will be explored as The Muppets uncovers what they really get up to at home and at work. As Sky puts it, “the romances, the breakups, the achievements, the disappointments, the wants, the desires – and everything else in between”.
The series was acquired for Sky by Senior Acquisitions Manager Lucy Criddle and unveiled today as part of Sky 1’s new season line-up, which includes previously announced productions, such as four-part Christmas drama Fungus the Bogeyman and multi-national production You, Me & the Apocalypse, which joins together US and UK talent, including Pauline Quirke, Rob Lowe and Paterson Joseph.
“The addition of The Muppets to Sky’s schedule builds on our long, successful relationship with the UK broadcaster,” comments Dayna Donaldson, General Manager, Media Distribution, Disney UK and Ireland. “We are delighted to bring the much-loved characters and universally cheeky storylines to Sky’s already powerful slate of Disney content across the Sky portfolio, including Sky Movies Disney and ABC Studios’ Scandal and Criminal Minds.”
The show is co-written and executive produced by Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (Anger Management). Randall Einhorn (Wilfred), Bill Barretta, Debbie McClellan and Kyle Laughlin are also executive producers.
The Muppets will debut on ABC in the US on 22nd September and will go on to premiere in the UK on Monday 19th October, at which point it will also be available to non-Sky customers through VOD service NOW.
