Netflix is unwrapping a John Grisham this Christmas, as it takes a leaf from his non-fiction book for its new true crime documentary. The Innocent Man, based on The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town, is a six-part investigation into two murders that shook the small town of Ada, Oklahoma, in the 1980s – and the controversial chain of events that followed.
Directed by Clay Tweel (Finders Keepers, Gleason, Out of Omaha), the series includes interviews with victims’ friends and families, Ada residents, attorneys, journalists, and others involved in the cases. (Grisham appears, as does attorney Barry Scheck, co-director of the Innocence Project.) Developed as a documentary series by Tweel and Ross Dinerstein, it blends new footage with archival video and photos.
The series premieres on Friday 14th December. Here’s your first look at the documentary in a new trailer:

Netflix is delving back into true crime with The Innocent Man, a story of a small town with dark secrets.
The six-part documentary series THE INNOCENT MAN focuses on two murders that shook the community of Ada, Oklahoma, in the 1980s – and the controversial chain of events that followed. The story might ring a bell for some. That’s because it gained national attention with John Grisham’s best-selling non-fiction book, The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town, which was based on the events. Now, Netflix is giving it the non-fiction treatment with a new series that interviews the victims’ friends and families, Ada residents, attorneys, journalists, and others involved in the cases. John Grisham will also appear in the series.
The series premieres globally on Netflix on Friday 14th December. Here’s the intriguing poster.
