The Big Sick’s Emily V. Gordon is flocking to The Nest for her next project, as she inks a deal with Amazon Studios to pen its new original film.
Gordon, whose TV credits include The Carmichael Show and Crashing, won audiences over across the country last year, when romantic comedy The Big Sick hit cinemas – and is about to do so again in living rooms, after it landed on Amazon Prime Video last week. Co-written with husband, Kumail Nanjiani, and partly based on their own relationship, the film has become an awards contender, bagging nominations for a Writers Guild Award, an Independent Spirit Award and, most recently, an Academy Award for Best Screenplay.
Now, Amazon, which snapped up the rights to the Big Sick, is clearly not wanting her to fly away, as a new deal attaches her to the adaptation of Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s novel, The Nest.
The story follows three siblings in New York, as they confront their older brother who is just out of rehab. Months earlier, he was behind the wheel of a car with a 19-year-old waitress, leading to an accident that endangered the siblings’ joint trust fund, which they will receive in a matter of days.
Kill Soloway and Andrea Sperling will produce the movie through Soloway’s production company, Topple, with Carly Kahane on exec producing duties.
