Netflix renews Sweet Tooth for Season 3
James R | On 05, May 2023
Netflix has renewed Sweet Tooth for a third season, which will also be its final chapter.
Based on the DC Comics created by Jeff Lemire, the series tells the family-friendly adventure of Gus — part deer, part boy — who leaves his home in the forest to find the outside world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself in search of answers about this new world and the mystery behind his origins.
Jim Mickle (Hap and Leonard) and Beth Schwartz (Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) serve as co-showrunners, with Christian Convery (Beautiful Boy, Tiger Rising, Playing With Fire) leading a cast that includes Nonso Anozie (The Laundromat, Zoo, Game of Thrones), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables [TV series], Victoria & Abdul, The Big Sick) and Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Saturday Night Live) – plus James Brolin (Life in Pieces, Amityville Horror, Westworld) as the voice of the narrator.
The epic conclusion to Gus’ (Christian Convery) journey will play out over eight episodes, Netflix has announced just days after the second season’s premiere.
“Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2,” Mickle said in a statement. “In Season 3, everybody is dealing with some kind of wound or emotional loss, whether that was somebody in their life or a part of themselves. Everybody is looking inward and looking to move on and ultimately learning that life doesn’t stop. You have to keep putting one foot in front of another.”
“Season 3 is darker than Season 2,” added Convery. “Gus is growing alongside the series, starting to mature as the themes get darker. There’s a lot he has to deal with, and it’s peak Sweet Tooth intensity.”
Cara Gee (The Expanse) as Siana and Ayazhan Dalabayeva as Nuka will join the cast, with Rosalind Chao’s Zhang and Amy Seimetz’s Birdie, Gus’ mother, both upped to series regulars.
Sweet Tooth Season 3 will premiere in 2024.
