Studiocanal is getting into the VOD game, with the launch of its own streaming channel on Apple TV.
One of Europe’s most recognised producers and distributors, Studiocanal has introduced all manner of acclaimed titles to UK audiences, from You Were Never Really Here and Breathless to Inside Llewyn Davies and Girlhood. Now, it’s bringing those together into one place with a streaming channel called, naturally, Studiocanal Presents.
The move follows similar decisions by distributors such as Icon and Curzon, but while they have launched streaming services on Amazon’s Prime Video Channels, Studiocanal will be available exclusively through the Apple TV app. The app is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, Chromecast with Google TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL and others.
The launch line-up includes Legend, Inside Llewyn Davis, Amazing Grace, the digitally restored The Third Man, Apocalypse Now: Final Cut in 4K, Pan’s Labyrinth, timeless classic Whisky Galore, Lynne Ramsay’s thriller You Were Never Really Here and Céline Sciamma’s acclaimed Girlhood. Also available are The Man Who Fell to Earth, Manchester by the Sea and Room, as well as Belle de Jour, Breathless, Submarine, Four Lions and Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
TV shows are also available, with the two titles at launch: Hannibal and, for the first time on a streaming channel, French drama Spiral.
The channel costs £4.99 a month, with a seven-day free trial available for new subscribers. All titles are available to download for offline viewing and, through Family Sharing, up to six family members can share subscriptions to Apple TV channels using their Apple ID and password.
Alex Hamilton, CEO for STUDIOCANAL in the UK comments: “We are thrilled to be taking this new step into the streaming market, opening up our wide-ranging and hugely diverse film and TV library to audiences through the Apple TV app. Month on month, we’ll be continuing to add both contemporary and classic titles for subscribers to discover, delivering on the range and quality that audiences associate with STUDIOCANAL.”
