The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. It was swiftly renewed for a second run, with Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski and Dylan Massin serving as executive producers, Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) and Kirsten Beyer serving as co-executive producers, and Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas also serving as co-showrunners.
That green light was technically a two-season pickup, with Season 3 filmed back to back with Season 2. Now, after production began last September, it has officially wrapped this week, and the cast and crew have been bidding farewell to the show and characters for the last time.
Co-EP Christopher Monfette thanked Matalas on Twitter and teased “the next and final chapter in Picard’s story” as “a truly remarkable thing”.
And that’s a wrap on Season Three of #StarTrekPicard. As you watch and enjoy Season Two just know — the next and final chapter in Picard’s story is a truly remarkable thing. Beyond thankful to @TerryMatalas, the cast, crew and all our extraordinary writers who made it possible.

Star Trek: Picard renewed for Season 3

Star Trek: Picard has officially been renewed for Season 3.
The series sees Patrick Stewart reprise his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and follows the iconic character into the next chapter of his life. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

That green light was technically a two-season pickup, and now Stewart himself has officially confirmed that Season 3 is on the way, with the plan to film Season 2 and 3 back to back to keep costs and scheduling as streamlined as possible.
The series is one of an expanding universe of Star Trek projects developed by Kurtzman, who has a deal in place with CBS Studios. Indeed, the news of Picard’s third season comes as animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks continues to air its second run, while Star Trek: Discovery prepares to return this November for its fourth season. Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are also in the works, along with a spin-off from Discovery titled Section 21, starring Michelle Yeoh.
All of these feed into ViacomCBS’ plans for its streaming service, previously called CBS All-Access and now rebranded as Paramount+. In the UK, Picard and Lower Decks have been acquired exclusively by Amazon Prime Video, while Discovery streams on Netflix.
Stewart broke the news of Picard’s renewal as part of Paramount+’s live-streamed celebrations yesterday to mark Star Trek Day. He also revealed a new trailer for Season 2, which will premiere in February 2022. Here’s the video:
