“These misfits just might save the world.” That’s the promising tagline for Space Sweepers, Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller, which launches this February.
Set in 2092, it sees Earth become a bleak planet which will soon be uninhabitable. Spaceship Victory is one of the many that live off salvaging space debris. Crewed with a genius space pilot Tae-ho, a mysterious ex-space pirate Captain Jang, an ex-con spaceship engineer Tiger Park, and a reprogrammed military robot Bubs, Spaceship Victory surpasses all other space sweepers. After successfully snatching a crashed space shuttle in the latest debris chase, Victory’s crew find a 7-year-old girl inside. They realise that she’s the humanlike robot wanted by UTS Space Guards, and decide to demand ransom in exchange.
The Korean blockbuster, which stars Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Sun-kyu and Yoo Hai-jin, and is directed by Jo Sung-hee (A Werewolf Boy, Phantom Detective), was snapped up by Netflix for worldwide release last year. You can see it in its full blockbusting glory on 5th February. Here’s the trailer:
Space Sweepers is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
