Patrick Moran is the latest industry heavyweight to ink an overall deal with Amazon Studios.
The former president of ABC Studios is a veteran TV exec with a CV that spans all manner of projects and networks. At ABC, he oversaw all studio creative and production operations, with a slate that included Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder and black-ish, as well as co-productions The Good Doctor, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Jimmy Kimmel Live!. In 2013, he launched cable/streaming division ABC Signature Studios, which has produced Zoe Kravitz’s High Fidelity, Kat Dennings’ Dollface, The Wilds for Amazon Prime Video, and Marvel series Runaways and Cloak & Dagger.
At ABC, he also oversaw the development of Scandal and Once Upon a Time, while his previous role at 20th TV saw him work on such hits as Glee, Bones and Prison Break.
In July, he exited ABC, with speculation that he had been approach by Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, who worked with him at 20th TV. Now, they’re working together again, with Moran to develop TV series to premiere globally on Amazon Prime Video.
“Patrick is a deeply respected creative executive whom I have had the pleasure of knowing throughout his entire career,” said Salke in a statement. “He has worked with some of television’s most prolific writers and producers on series with real cultural impact. His ability to identify and nurture compelling content makes Patrick a perfect fit for the global Prime Video family.”
“Amazon Studios, known for bold groundbreaking storytelling, is the perfect place to embark on my next chapter as I look to be more closely aligned with the creative process,” added Moran. “I look forward to partnering with innovative writers and show creators with a specific take on the world today in this new role, and am thrilled to work with Jennifer, Vernon, Albert and the Amazon Studios team.”
