Now from £18: Where is the cheapest place to buy Google Chromecast?

Google Chromecast has been discounted to as little as £18 in the UK.
The streaming media device, which launched earlier this year, lets you stream (“cast”) content live from your mobile device onto your TV over a Wi-Fi connection. The USB-sized stick plugs into your telly’s HDMI port and is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows phones and tablets, as well as PCs, Macs and Chromebooks.
The device has been a huge hit in the UK and further afield. Since Chromecast first launched last year in the US, people have hit the cast button more than 400 million times to enjoy their favorite sports, music, premium movies and TV shows, while 30,000 stores have now been launched across 20 countries.
While the initial line-up of apps was the devices limiting factor, that has also improved, with blinkbox and Wuaki.tv both launching their own apps to go alongside iPlayer, YouTube, Google Play Movies & Music and Netflix.
The biggest selling point, meanwhile, was the price – just £30, compared to the £40+ cost of (more fully-fledged) rival devices from Roku. Google has also announced that if you buy and set up your Chromecast by 30th September 2014, you can get unlimited music from Google Play free for 90 days.
Tesco launched its own discounted offer alongside its recently-launched app, giving £5 free blinkbox credit to all Chromecast buyers before the end of October.
blinkbox Movies and TV Managing Director Adrian Letts commented: “Chromecast is a great value way to stream the latest movies and TV from blinkbox without needing to upgrade your TV. Combine that with £5 of blinkbox credit and you have the recipe for a great home entertainment experience for a bargain price.”
Now, though, Google Chromecast has become even cheaper, with retailers in the UK slashing the price to £18, seemingly of their own accord. The new price tag is not being offered by Google, which continues to sell it online at £30, but has been matched by Amazon, Currys and John Lewis. Tesco’s offer has already seen its supply of Chromecast devices sell out.
Where, then, is the cheapest place to buy Google Chromecast?
Here’s a round-up of the current price from UK retailers who sell Google Chromecast:
Amazon £18
Currys: £18 (until Thursday 28th August)
John Lewis: £18
Tesco: Sold out (£30 + £5 free blinkbox credit)
Argos: £30
Google Play: £30
