Nine Perfect Strangers has found a UK TV home on Amazon Prime Video.
The star-studded series, based on the New York Times bestselling book by Liane Moriarty, will air on Hulu in the USA, but instead of debuting on Disney+ Star, the adult-friendly part of Disney’s subscription service, it has been snapped up for Amazon for worldwide streaming.
The eight-part drama stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Boone, Bobby Cannavale, Luke Evans, Michael Shannon, Regina Hall, Manny Jacinto, Melvin Gregg, Samara Weaving and Asher Keddie. Behind the camera, it is directed and produced by Jonathan Levine and co-written by David E Kelley and John Henry Butterworth. It is produced by Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories and David E Kelley.
Set at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation, the series follows nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living. Watching over them during this ten-day retreat is the resort’s director Masha (Kidman), a woman on a mission to reinvigorate their tired minds and bodies. However, these nine strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.
Filmed on location in Australia, the series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video later this year.
Kidman says: “I’m so proud of what we were able to pull together this past year, bringing Nine Perfect Strangers filming to Australia during the global Covid-19 pandemic. Partnering with Melissa McCarthy, working with David Kelley, Liane Moriarty and my producing cohorts again, joining forces with Hulu in the USA and now this, a global distribution deal with my home studio of Amazon. The stars have aligned and I am thrilled!”
“What a dream team! Nicole, Bruna, and David all have proven track records producing world-class, complex and addictive stories with strong women front and center. I’m excited for Amazon Prime Video customers to see this incredible new series,” added Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “We’re delighted to be working with Made Up Stories, Blossom Films and Endeavor Content to bring Nine Perfect Strangers to our Prime members around the world I know they are going to love it “
