“I cannot guarantee everyone’s survival…” That’s the sound of Vikings: Valhalla returning to Netflix in the new year, and a new trailer gives us a closer look at Season 2.
The follow-up to History’s hit original series begins in the early 11th century and chronicles the legendary adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson) and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). As tensions between the Vikings and the English royals reach a bloody breaking point and as the Vikings themselves clash over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs, these three Vikings begin an epic journey that will take them across oceans and through battlefields, from Kattegat to England and beyond, as they fight for survival and glory.
Season 2 finds our heroes suddenly fugitives in Scandinavia, where they are forced to test their ambitions and courage in worlds beyond their familiar fjords.
“The whole concept of Season 2 is that we take these three heroes who are in Scandinavia and blow them out of their comfort zones,” says show creator Jeb Stuart. “Season 2 for Harald and Leif is a road trip: It’s Thelma and Louise on the Dnieper River. The two of them will begin this incredible journey. Freydís has to go to Pomerania, which is a very difficult environment.”
You can see them in action on 12th January, when Season 2 premieres on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:

It premiered at the end of last month and Season 1 has since climbed to the top of Netflix’s most-watched charts, with 194 million hours viewed in its first nine days. Now, Netflix has confirmed that the show will return for two more seasons, with Jeb Stuart returning as creator and showrunner of both seasons. Sam Corlett (Leif Eriksson), Frida Gustavsson (Freydis Eriksdotter) and Leo Suter (Harald Sigurdsson), among others, will reprise their roles.
The drama series was previously announced as a 24-episode pickup – this announcement confirms a total of three, eight-episode seasons.
Stuart says: “Fans of Valhalla – Thank you to the millions of you who have watched (and rewatched!) Season 1. The numbers have been mind-boggling and beyond my wildest expectations. I’m thrilled to be able to confirm that we wrapped and are already editing Season 2 and that production will start soon on Season 3. While the storylines for Leif, Freydis, Harald, Olaf, Canute and the rest of our amazing cast are secret, I can say without hesitation that their journeys will be even more epic than what you’ve seen so far. SKÅL!!!”
Production on Season 2 has already wrapped, with the series expected to return in 2023. Season 3 will begin production in the spring.
