Netflix’s Eurovision: The full list of cameos

It’s been a couple of weeks since Netflix dropped Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga online, and several more weeks since the actual Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was sadly cancelled. But the streamer’s unlikely comedy about the annual singing tournament has done a surprisingly good job of filling the Eurovision void in our hearts this year – and that’s because it’s smart enough to understand what make Eurovision so endearing: its earnest intentions and its sincere music. (Read our review of the film here.)
While Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams play two fictional competitors from Iceland, from the off, the film puts the music front and centre, with Molly Sandén (a 2006 Junior Eurovision entry) helping McAdams provide the singing voice for Sigrit, one half of Fire Saga, while Swedish opera singer Erik Mjönes provides the pipes for Dan Stevens’ arrogant Russian star, Alexander Lemtov. Things really step up a gear, though, a quarter of the way through, as a sequence that owes a debt to Pitch Perfect wheels out a whole host of Eurovision favourites to join in a “Song Along” that stitches together covers of Madonna, Abba, Celine Dion, Cher and The Black Eyed Peas.
You can see the sequence in its full, fabulous glory above. But who’s who in it? Read on for the full list of Eurovision cameos you can see in that sequence. (And, as a bonus, watch out for Salvador Sobral (Portugal, 2017 – winner), who is busking on the piano in the Edinburgh streets.)
