Says Collins: “As an actor, an artist, and a creative, the most meaningful gift is to connect with people through your art in some way. It’s an honor to be associated with a project that provided people with some much-needed relief during a trying time when everyone was looking for a reason to smile and laugh. Not only did playing Emily teach me more about myself, but also about the world around me. I couldn’t be happier to be back in Paris for Season 2 to expand upon those lessons, to continue to grow, and learn even more about this beautiful city and all of its character with Emily.”
Sylvie Grateau, Emily’s boss at the Savoir Agency in Paris, said in a mock statement released by Netflix: “We hope that Emily continues to immerse herself culturally here to not make any egregious faux pas. We will continue to keep you updated on her progress and accomplishments in the coming months.”
Filming is now underway in Paris, St Tropez and other locations.
Netflix renews Emily in Paris for Season 2
11th November 2020
Netflix has renewed Emily in Paris for a second season.
Written and exec-produced by Sex and the City creator Darren Star, the series follows Emily, an ambitious twenty-something marketing executive from Chicago who unexpectedly lands her dream job in Paris when her company, the Gilbert Group, acquires a French luxury marketing company — and she is tasked with revamping their social media strategy.
The show, which jumped from Paramount to Netflix earlier this year, stars Lily Collins, who also produces. Since its debut last month, however, it has met with a decidedly mixed reception.
“This outdated, oblivious romantic comedy is truly insipid nonsense,” we wrote in our review.
Nonetheless, less than a month later, and with the show sparking swathes of comments on social media, Netflix has ordered a second season.
“We are writing to regrettably inform you that Emily Cooper will need to remain in Paris for an extended period of time,” read a fake letter from the Gilbert Group announcing the second season pick-up. “Despite her overconfident manner and lack of prior experience in luxury goods marketing, she has nonetheless managed to charm some of our hard-to-impress clients during her short time as Savoir. Call it bonne chance, or American ingenuity – I’m leaning towards the former – her result are impressive.”
“We hope that by extending her time in Paris, Emily will further the relationships she has already made, delve deeper into our culture and perhaps pick up a few words of basic French,” added the letter. “We love having Emily in Paris! But please don’t let her know that.”
