13 Reasons Why’s Katherine Langford to lead Netflix’s Cursed
15th September 2018
13 Reasons Why’s star Katherine Langford is reteaming with Netflix to lead the cast of new series Cursed.
Based on the upcoming book of the same name, which will published by Simon & Schuster in 2019, the series is co-created by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler and brings a fresh spin on King Arthur. It retells the familiar legend through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.
Announced earlier this year, Netflix didn’t have to look far to find the actor to play Nimue; Langford was the breakout star of 13 Reasons Why, already proving her chops when it comes to coming-of-age drama. She played Hannah Baker, a high schooler who left behind a series of tapes following her suicide. The series stirred controversy for its depiction of suicide and sexual assault, but there was no controversy surrounding the quality of its cast: Langford earned a Golden Globe nomination for the role, and has since gone on to appear in Love, Simon.
Also joining the Cursed crew is Zetna Fuentes, who has been tapped to direct the opening two episodes. The How to Get Away with Murder helmer will also serve as an EP on the project, alongside Miller, Wheeler and co-EP Silenn Thomas.
