First look: Jennifer Aniston in Netflix’s Dumplin’
3rd November 2018
Jennifer Aniston heads to Netflix this December for new movie Dumplin’, and we’ve got our first look at what to expect.
Acquired by the streaming giant earlier this year, the film is based on Julie Murphy’s #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name and is adapted by Kristin Hahn and directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses). It followed the eponymous plus-size, teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, who signs up for her mom’s pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionising the pageant and their small Texas town.
Aniston stars as her mum alongside Danielle Macdonald as Dumplin’ herself, and now, Netflix has released two pictures of them each. They’ll be joined on screen by Odeya Rush (Lady Bird, Goosebumps), Dove Cameron (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Liv and Maddie, Descendants) and Harold Perrineau (Claws, Lost), Bex Taylor-Klaus and Ginger Minj. Behind the camera, they’ll be joined by Dolly Parton too, who has produced six new original songs for the series, co-written by Grammy Nominee Linda Perry. Guest vocalists on the tracks will include Sia, Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Elle King, Alison Krauss, and Rhonda Vincent, plus Danielle Macdonald and Aniston.
The film will be released on Netflix worldwide on Friday 7th December.
Netflix acquires Dolly Parton film Dumplin’
13th September 2018
Netflix has acquired the rights to Dumplin’, a new film featuring music from Dolly Parton.
Dumplin’ is the plus-size, teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, who signs up for her mom’s pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.
The film, which is based on Julie Murphy’s #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, is adapted by Kristin Hahn and directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses). It stars Danielle Macdonald (Bird Box, Skin, Paradise Hills, Patti Cake$), Jennifer Aniston (Upcoming Murder Mystery, Horrible Bosses, Marley and Me), Odeya Rush (Lady Bird, Goosebumps), Dove Cameron (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Liv and Maddie, Descendants), Harold Perrineau (Claws, Lost), Bex Taylor-Klaus and Ginger Minj.
The big name behind the camera, though, may be the movie’s most attention-grabbing star: the film features collaborations and original music from entertainment industry icon Dolly Parton. Parton has recorded new collaborations of her classic songs in addition to six new original songs co-written by Parton and Grammy Nominee Linda Perry. Special guest vocalists include Sia, Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Danielle Macdonald, and Jennifer Aniston.
A Cota Films and 50 Degrees Entertainment Presentation, it is produced by Michael Costigan (American Gangster, A Bigger Splash, Brokeback Mountain, Ghost in the Shell), Mohamed AlRafi (Above Suspicion, Lying and Stealing), Kristin Hahn (The Switch, Cake) and Trish Hofmann (Gringo, Get On Up), with Aniston and Danny Nozell on board as exec producers.
The film will be released later this year on Netflix in the US and select international territories, while the soundtrack will release worldwide on 30th November on Dolly Records/RCA Nashville (Sony Music). Here I Am, performed by Dolly Parton & Sia, is the first release from the forthcoming Dumplin’ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and will be available for download and streaming on 14th September.
