“Do you know that fable about the scorpion and the frog?” “They hook up?” They both die.” That’s the sound of Killing Eve returning for its fourth season – and a new trailer gives us a look at the final chapter.

The thriller stars Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw and is based on the Codename Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings, following the cat-and-mouse relationship between two women with brutal pasts – ex-MI6 operative Eve (Oh) and former assassin Vilanelle (Comer).

Season 4 will continue the Killing Eve tradition of a new lead writer every season, with Laura Neal (Sex Education, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) picking up the baton after Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell and Suzanne Heathcote.

In the US, the series will premiere on 27th February, which means you can expect a UK air date to be confirmed very soon, most likely hot on the heels of the US broadcast – in the meantime, here’s the new video:

The award-winning hit show stars Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw and is based on the Codename Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings, following the cat-and-mouse relationship between two women with brutal pasts – ex-MI6 operative Eve (Oh) and former assassin Vilanelle (Comer).

The drama, which airs exclusively on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, has been a huge hit on the Beeb’s on-demand service, with 175 million streams to date. Season 3 aired last year, with our review praising the “enjoyably twisted thriller” for “finding a renewed sense of focus”.

Season 4 will continue the Killing Eve tradition of a new lead writer every season, with Laura Neal (Sex Education, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) picking up the baton after Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell and Suzanne Heathcote. Neal will also serve an executive producer. Alongside Neal, executive producers for the upcoming season include Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas and Sandra Oh.

In the US, the series will premiere on 27th February, which means you can expect a UK air date in line with Season 3, which debuted new episodes weekly on BBC iPlayer following their Stateside broadcast. We’ll have official confirmation on that for you soon. In the meantime, here’s the trailer:

 

Killing Eve to end with Season 4

Killing Eve will officially end with its fourth season, the BBC has announced.

Production of the fourth season is set to begin early this summer, filming in the UK and locations across Europe. The wait for the eight-episode season will be some time, with a debut scheduled for 2022. It will also be the final outing for Eve and Vilanelle, the BBC has confirmed.

Sandra Oh says: “Killing Eve has been one of my greatest experiences and I look forward to diving back into Eve’s remarkable mind soon. I’m so grateful for all cast and crew who have brought our story to life and to the fans who have joined us and will be back for our exciting and unpredictable fourth and final season.”

Jodie Comer says: “Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for. Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!”

There is good news, however, with produces Sid Gentle Films Ltd announcing that it is working to develop a number of potential spin-off ideas to extend the show’s iconic universe.
