Joker tops UK Official Film Chart on downloads alone

Joker has taken its place at the top of the pile this week, leading the UK’s Official Film Chart on digital downloads alone.
Joker enjoyed a monumental debut on digital formats earlier this month, racking up 140,500 downloads in its first week – the third-largest opening week on digital since records began in 2017. That wasn’t enough to beat Downton Abbey, which racked up 240,000 sales in total, but with one crucial difference: 96 per cent of those were on physical formats.
This week, however, Joker has seized the title from Downton Abbey by just 3,050 sales, knocking the TV show’s feature outing into second place in the only weekly chart in the world to count both physical disc and digital download sales.
Meanwhile, fellow Academy Award-winning Judy Garland biopic Judy has jumped five places to place third following its release on DVD and Blu-ray.
This week’s highest new entry is Gemini Man in fourth, starring Will Smith. In the film, Henry Brogan (Smith) is a 51-year-old assassin who’s ready to retire – but his plans are turned upside down when he finds himself the target of a younger, faster clone of himself.
Another brand-new entry, magical animated adventure film Abominable, debuts at No. 5 in the chart.
Lining the rest of the Top 10 this week are Ad Astra (sixth – down from third), Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (seventh), Rambo: Last Blood (now in eighth), Elton John biopic Rocketman (ninth) and It: Chapter Two (10th).
