Netflix is assembling a star-studded ensemble cast for feature thriller The Good Nurse.
The film, which marks Tobias Lindholm’s English-language feature directorial debut, will tell the true story of the prolific serial killer nurse Charlie Cullen. Lindholm (The Investigation, Another Round, A War) will helm from a script by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917), based on the book of the same name by journalist Charles Graeber.
Cullen was quickly dubbed ‘The Angel of Death’ by the media, but was a husband, father and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, his murderous career in the world’s most trusted profession spanned 16 years and nine hospitals across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Eddie Redmayne will play Cullen, with Jessica Chastain co-starring as the nurse whose pursuit helped to catch him. They will be joined by The Americans’ Noah Emmerich and Fear the Walking Dead’s Kim Dickens.
Netflix acquired the project in a world rights pre-buy earlier this year, with Protozoa Pictures’ Scott Franklin and Darren Aronofsky and FilmNation Entertainment producing.
