Houseparty is bringing together a bunch of celebrities for a special live-streaming event this weekend.

The social video chat app – available on iOS, Android, Web and Mac – has seen a boost in usage in recent weeks, as a growing number of people stay indoors or self-isolate during the coronavirus pandemic. But while meetings and group chats have seen Houseparty’s crown stolen slightly by Zoom, the app is fighting back with a star-studded three-day even designed to catch users’ attention.

Called In the House, the event will include performances by John Legend and Katy Perry, as well as segments featuring Alicia Keys, DaBaby, Bad Bunny, Neil Patrick Harris, Keegan-Michael Key, Idina Menzel, Sarah Michelle, Snoop Dogg, Chvrches, Dua Lip and David Blaine, among others.

Intimate music performances, instructional homemade meals from famous chefs, dance lessons, group workouts and more will be on offer, with Houseparty promising users can get an up-close look at celebrities’ lives and interests. That means Perry will talk about Daisies as well as performing it, while Snoop Dog and Zooey Deschanel will be showing off their culinary skills, Terry Crews will host a workout routine and Harris will share a magic show.

“We are trying to capture that feeling of sitting on the couch for that special show with your family or friends on a Friday night. We’ve invited some of our favorite artists to participate in this kickoff event,” Houseparty CEO Sima Sistani said in a statement.

While the event will very much be about building the brand’s presence, it will not feature advertising or sponsorship. The app doesn’t support replays on-demand, but each segment will be played again 12 hours after their original streams.

The event kicks off at 10pm UK time.
