Icon Film Channel to launch standalone app

The Icon Film Channel is launching a standalone app this December, bringing the distributor’s catalogue to a range of devices.
The streaming service initially launched in February as part of Amazon Prime Video Channels, Amazon’s VOD platform that allows Amazon Prime members to add other streaming services to their account as bolt-on subscriptions – not unlike the way that Netflix is available through Sky or Virgin Media. It launched with more than 150 of Icon’s titles, including Drive, Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ, as well as Buried, The Butterfly Effect trilogy, House of Sand & Fog, La Vie En Rose, Looking For Eric, The Guest, Enigma and The Mummy.
Now, from 13th December 2021, the platform will be available as its own app. The app will be available in the UK and Ireland on desktop, mobile browsers and Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Xbox One, iOS and Android.
New additions to Icon’s curated library will be available to stream on IFC for the first time at launch. A selection of these includes Joel Schumacher’s 90’s cult-hit Flatliners, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon; neo-noir thriller Jagged Edge led by Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges; Best Picture nominee The Prince of Tides; the ultra-violent U-Turn from veteran director Oliver Stone; and Terry Gilliam’s cult-classic The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, featuring John Neville, Eric Idle and Uma Thurman.
Further titles, both classic and new, will be added to the service each month. Subscriptions start at £4.99 a month or £39.99 annually with a 30-day free trial. Titles will also be available to rent within the app from £2.99 each.
Icon Film Channel to launch on Amazon Prime Video Channels
19th February 2021
Icon Film Distribution is stepping into the streaming arena with the Icon Film Channel launching this March.
The streaming service will be available as part of Amazon Prime Video Channels, Amazon’s VOD platform that allows Amazon Prime members to add other streaming services to their account as bolt-on subscriptions – not unlike the way that Netflix is available through Sky or Virgin Media. More than 70 channels are available as add-ons in the UK, including Shudder, MUBI and STARZPLAY, enabling these extra subscriptions to be managed and paid through one Amazon account, without needing to sign up to another bundle or contract – and watched via the Amazon Prime Video app.
Icon Film Distribution will initially showcase more than 150 of the long-standing distributor’s most exciting, unique and entertaining films. Additional titles, both catalogue and new, will then be added to the service monthly.
The channel will showcase titles including Drive, Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ, as well as Buried, The Butterfly Effect trilogy, House of Sand & Fog, La Vie En Rose, Looking For Eric, The Guest, Enigma and The Mummy. Remastered titles such as Gosford Park and Malcolm X will also be included, with some exclusively available to stream in the UK through the channel.
Icon hasn’t yet confirmed the price of its subscription offering, although other distributors and labels who have taken the same route through Prime Video Channels include MGM, Arrow Video and Sundance Now.
The streaming service will launch on Prime Video Channels on 18th March.
