Everyone else is loved up, matched up and ready to hit those family dinners this Christmas season. Everyone that is, except Johanne. Determined to fend off those prying questions on her love life, Johanne sets off to find the perfect date for Christmas – and Netflix will be with her all the way with new romantic drama Home for Christmas.
The series joins Netflix’s growing push into festive TV shows and films, with Ida Elise Broch, known from Lilyhammer and Det tredje Øyet, starring as Johanne, and Felix Sandman (Quicksand), Kingsford Sayor and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen playing her love interests.
The six episode series is co-directed by Anna Gutto, with Miriam Larsen, Mattis Herman Nyquist, Julie Skaufel, Fredrik Høyer and Per-Olav Sørensen on writing duties, inspired by an idea from Amir Shaheen and Kristian Andersen. The series is produced by Trond Kvernstrøm, Christian Steen and Anders Tangen at The Oslo Company.

Netflix is heading to Norway for the holidays, with new festive series Home for Christmas.
The drama comedy hails from Per-Olav Sørensen, the director of Nobel and Netflix original series Quicksand. It follows Johanne, who finds herself at 30 years old to be the only one among friends and family without a partner. The constant comments on her single life and society’s expectations of the perfect family Christmas finally gets to her. Johanne starts a 24 day hunt for a partner to bring home for Christmas.

Tesha Crawford, Director International Originals Northern Europe at Netflix, says: ”We are excited about this fun, female led story as we believe the universal themes of love, ambition and the struggle with expectations, especially around Christmas, will resonate with our audiences in the Nordic countries as well as the rest of the world. It’s a true honor to work with so many talented creatives from all over the Nordic region and we are happy to continue our partnership with Per-Olav Sørensen.”
“With this extremely talented group of actors and writers we are very much looking forward to create a drama comedy set to Christmas. Hopefully it will give the audience a feel good experience, something to laugh at, and hopefully something to think about. It is also a thrill to work with Netflix once more shortly after finishing Quicksand”, adds Sørensen.
Production is now underway in Røros, Norway.
