Globe Player relaunches as subscription streaming service

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is relaunching its Globe Player as a subscription streaming service.
The platform launched back in 2014 and offered full-length films of more than 50 Shakespeare productions recorded at the Globe to rent or buy – usually priced from £3.99. Now, it’s relaunching with an added subscription model, which will mean that titles from the Globe Theatre and Sam Wanamaker Playhouse will be able to stream an unlimited times for one recurring fee, although individual purchases will still be available.
There are currently 16 productions available on the new Globe Player, with old favourites including the award-winning all-male Original Practice Twelfth Night (2012) with Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry, the opening production in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse The Duchess of Malfi (2014) with Gemma Arterton in the title role, and the theatre’s first-ever female Prince of Denmark: Michelle Terry in Hamlet (2018).
Fresh titles include The Winter’s Tale (2018) and The Merry Wives of Windsor (2019) available to watch digitally for the first time, as well as productions from the Globe’s recent Summer 2021 season, including Romeo & Juliet with Alfred Enoch and Rebekah Murrell.
More classic productions from previous theatre seasons, as well as new videos, will be added to Globe Player in February 2022 and throughout the year.
A subscription costs £59.99 a year, with no monthly option available, while individual purchases cost £9.99 each.
