FrightFest Presents announces second wave of horror releases

FrightFest Presents has announced its second wave of horror titles set for release in the coming year. The horror film festival has long been the go-to destination for UK genre fans to see the latest terrors from up-and-coming filmmakers, and in recent years, it has embraced the opportunity provided by VOD to bring those titles directly to audiences’ living rooms. Last year, it inked a deal with Signature Entertainment for a first wave of FrightFest Presents titles, with the banner distributing festival favourites across physical, digital and TV/SVOD platforms in the UK.
Phase one included The Dark, Secret Santa, Boar, Pimped, Lifechanger and (fittingly) Fright Fest. You can find our reviews and their release dates here. Now, Phase Two has been confirmed, ranging from British comedy to fantasy chillers. The new wave of movies will be released across spring and summer, starting in February with Videoman.

Videoman

Ennio, a VHS collector with a drinking problem, finds a valuable movie that could save him from eviction. When the movie gets stolen he starts a desperate hunt for a perpetrator and meets an alcoholic woman obsessed with the 80s. These outsiders, joined by nostalgia and broken dreams, initiates a romance while Ennios life starts turning into an Italian horror film. Director Kristian A. Söderström’s film debut was also featured at Film 4’s FilmFear and IFI Horrorthon Dublin festivals.

F.U.B.A.R

When Sam discovers his stag do is a zombie apocalypse paintball weekend, he couldn’t be happier – after all, what better way to spend your last few days of freedom than shooting paintballs in the woods with your best mates? But their fantasy weekend quickly goes F.U.B.A.R when disaster strikes, leaving the stag party besieged and fighting for their lives in a disused nuclear bunker.
Is it all still a fame, or is it game over? This hilarious British horror comedy, written and directed by Ben Kent (Love Bug), features Mark Heap of Green Wing, Spaced, Friday Night Dinner and Upstart Crow fame.

The Night Sitter

Starring Elyse DuFour of The Walking Dead, The Night Sitter is a gleefully gory horror comedy with a psychedelic giallo style. A petty thief looking for a score poses as innocent babysitter “Amber” and books a dream job at the mansion of Ted Hooper, an aspiring Paranormal Investigator with a reclusive son named Kevin and a mysterious office that is strictly off-limits. Soon “Amber”’s partners-in-crime arrive to clean out the house, leaving Kevin to sneak into his father’s office… and learn first-hand just why it’s off-limits.

Dead Ant

When the one-hit-wonder glam-metal band “Sonic Grave” embark on a trip to Coachella in hopes of a comeback, their peyote trip pit stop in Joshua Tree incites an unworldly vicious attack, and they must rock themselves out of harms way. Featured at Screamfest Horror Film Festival and Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

A Young Man with High Potential

When the brilliant but inexperienced computer science student PIET is turned down by bright and beautiful KLARA, he is deeply hurt. He takes a dose of a sleep medication, leading to a tumultuous night during which he loses his innocence in more ways than one. An edge-of-your-seat thriller, this was Winner of Best Production at Munich Film Festival 2018 and was also featured at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival.

A man searches the lake for the monster that murdered his husband, while that monster falls in love with an unsuspecting visitor. This fantasy horror was winner of Best Director, Best Actor,and Best Editing at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival 2018.
