Filming is now complete on Season 2 of Tin Star, and new images now give us our first taste of what to expect.
The Sky original, created by Rowan Joffe and produced by Kudos for Sky Atlantic, follows police chief Jim Worth (Tim Roth), who starts a new life with his beloved wife Angela (Genevieve O’Reilly) and their daughter Anna (Abigail Lawrie) in the peace and quiet of the remote Rocky Mountains. However, the tranquillity is short-lived, as the arrival of huge numbers of workers from a new oil refinery leads to a wave of drugs, prostitution and organised crime.
After the chaos of Season 1, Season 2 picks up where we left our unlikely hero in the remote Rockies wilderness. Seeking refuge, Anna is taken in by the God-fearing Nickel family, headed up by Pastor Johan (John Lynch), his wife Sarah (Anamaria Marinca) and daughter Rosa (Jenessa Grant), and hidden with the Ammonites – a religious community close to Little Big Bear. However the peaceful prairie family are harbouring secrets of their own and it’s not long before Anna is forced to seek her father’s help, as an altogether more hellish threat emerges. If Jim is to find a way to save his family, atone for his sins he must form an uneasy alliance in the battle for forgiveness.
Christina Hendricks, Anamaria Marinca and Jenessa Grant complete the all-star line-up in what has proven to be one of Sky Atlantic’s best-performing original shows. The first series averaged a total audience of 1.7m per episode and had more than 16 million downloads and views. The 10-part second series, which was filmed in Calgary, Canada, is scheduled to air in 2019 exclusively on Sky and TV streaming service NOW in the UK and Ireland.
Need to catch up? Season 1 of Tin Star is currently available on-demand on Sky and NOW and will broadcast on Channel 4 later this year.

John Lynch (The Fall, Sliding Doors), Anamaria Marinca (The Missing, Mars) and Jenessa Grant (The Handmaid’s Tale) will join the all-star line-up for the new run, with Lynch playing Pastor John and Anamaria Marinca playing his wife, Sarah, alongside Jenessa Grant as their daughter, Rosa. Tin Star creator Rowan Joffe and executive producer Alison Jackson say: “We are thrilled to be given a further opportunity to delve deeper into the characters we had such fun with in series one. A second series of Tin Star lets us build on the established world of Little Big Bear, but also gives the audience a glimpse of another intriguing community and provides us with a family who are strangely unsettling for our hero Jim Worth. We are delighted that John, Anamaria and Jenessa have joined our wonderful cast.”
The 10-part second series, which is now filming in Calgary, Canada, is scheduled to air in 2019 exclusively on Sky and TV streaming service NOW.
Tin Star renewed for Season 2
5th September 2017
Tin Star has already been renewed for a second season, before the first has even aired.
The Sky Original, which stars Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks, is a revenge drama about police chief Jim Worth, who starts a new life with his beloved wife and children in the peace and quiet of the remote Rocky Mountains. However, the tranquillity is short-lived, as the arrival of huge numbers of workers from a new oil refinery leads to a wave of drugs, prostitution and organised crime. This coincides with the murder of one of Jim’s family. His obsessive quest to find the truth behind this mysterious killing drives a story about love, corruption and grief.
Penned by BAFTA award-winning writer and director Rowan Joffe, Season 2 will continue the dark story of a man split in two by his past and present.
Anne Mensah, head of drama, Sky, says: “When Tin Star launches this week, Sky Atlantic viewers will not only experience a hugely powerful tale of revenge with captivating, uncompromising characters, but will be left in no doubt as to why a second series was an absolute must. Our huge thanks to Rowan, Tim, Alison, Diederick and the whole cast and crew for this outstanding series.”
The good news is that viewers who tune in later this week won’t have to wait to find out how the story unfolds, with all 10 episodes of Tin Star available on-demand from Thursday 7th September, alongside the broadcast of Episode 1.
