Disney+ UK heads to Sky Q and NOW TV

Disney+ will be available on Sky and NOW, as part of a new deal between the two media giants.
Disney has long had its content available exclusively on Sky, with Sky Cinema’s rights to the House of Mouse’s film catalogue even contributing to the delay of Disney’s subscription service in the UK. The companies are still continuing their relationship, though, with a multi-year deal they will make Disney+ available for purchase in the UK and Ireland on Sky Q.
Customers will be able to watch shows such as The Mandalorian and High School Musical; The Musical, The Series, in a similar way to Netflix subscribers being able to access Netflix’s library through the Sky Q platform, while paying for it as part of its monthly Sky bill.
Crucially for Sky, the deal also includes the first-pay window for 20th Century titles, so Sky Cinema customers will continue to enjoy access to the latest blockbusters, such as Le Mans ’66 and Terminator: Dark Fate.
Jeremy Darroch, Group Chief Executive, Sky, said: “We’ve built a strong partnership with Disney over three decades and we’re pleased that our customers in the UK and Ireland can continue to enjoy their world-class content – all in one place on Sky Q. This is a great start to what is set to be another stellar year for Sky – in 2020 we’ll launch new channels and genres, start building Sky Studios Elstree and we’ve got brilliant new and returning originals coming too.”
Added Kevin Mayer, Chairman of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International, “We are delighted that Sky is selling the Disney+ service on their platform and, along with our other distribution partners, will deliver exceptional reach at launch.”
Disney+ will also be added to NOW in the coming months, although it is not yet clear whether that will be solely as an app on NOW devices or, like hayu, as a separate pass available within the NOW streaming service.
