Dicte is officially returning to our screens this July for a third season.
Based on Elsebeth Egholm’s best-selling novels, the Danish drama follows the eponymous crime reporter (Wallander’s Iben Hjejle), as she returns to her hometown of Aarhus with her teenage daughter Rose. Originally airing in 2016, before returning for Season 2 last year, it has grown to become one of the more popular and entertaining series snapped up for UK release by foreign language service Walter Presents.
“It is best not to go into it with the Scandi noir expectations, because this is more of a soap set against the backdrop of murder,” we wrote in our review of its first run. “The programme is really all about the burgeoning romances and the interpersonal relationships. The characters are appealing, multi-layered and beautifully performed, and there is an all-encompassing good-naturedness about it.”
Now, the programme is preparing to head back to More4 for Season 3. While most of Walter Presents’ acquisitions tend to drop all-at-once on All 4, Dicte is one of those selected for a weekly linear run on More4, once again enjoying the primetime 9pm slot on the Freeview channel.
As we join her in Season 3, Dicte has finally surrendered to love. She has married Bo and quit her job as a reporter, intending to settle down and write a book. But, on a photo shoot in Lebanon, Bo is taken hostage and Dicte, with the help of Wagner, must do everything she can to bring him back home alive. Dicte is forced to return to her job as a reporter and, by necessity, she must also confront her biological father.
Anne and Torsten, meanwhile, face a new challenge with the birth of their twins and Rose faces an existential choice. Over the course of the season, Dicte becomes tangled up in cases involving assisted suicide, gambling addiction, jealousy and stalking, and Season 3 brings us closer to the characters, as they become more self-aware and explore their identities – all told through intense and thrilling crime stories.
Season 3 will premiere at 9pm on Friday 13th July, with episodes available on-demand through Walter Presents following each broadcast. Still not seen any of Dicte? Read why you should catch up with Season 1.
