David Bowie’s Blackstar music video to premiere on 19th November

The music video for David Bowie’s Blackstar (★), will premiere on 19th November.
The film to accompany the new single will debut on Sky Atlantic at 8.45pm this Thursday ahead of the second episode of The Last Panthers. The securing of The Thin White Duke’s new number for the TV show’s opening credits is something of a coup for broadcaster – it’s the first time Bowie’s written a song for a TV series in 20 odd years.
It was written especially for the crime drama, after director Johan Renck showed him the first two episodes of the programme. The song, in its abridged form, premiered simultaneously across Europe on Sky on Thursday 12th November. The six part series, a joint pan-European commission from Sky and CANAL + in France, stars Samantha Morton, Tahar Rahim and John Hurt in a tale that begins with a thrilling diamond hunt – an opening that’s as precise as it is gripping. No one could ever accuse Sky of not milking the partnership for all its worth: the 10-minute video, directed by Renck, will premiere at 8.45pm GMT in Ireland, Italy, Germany and Australia. Viewers in the UK can see it live on Sky Atlantic and Sky Arts, both of which are available to stream via NOW, Sky’s contract-free VOD service, for £6.99 a month.
Zai Bennett, Director of Sky Atlantic, comments: “Hosting the world premiere of David Bowie’s short film for ★ on Sky channels is very exciting. It means Sky customers will be the first people in the world to see this video and enjoy the song in full, following a unique collaboration between Sky, David Bowie and Sony Music.”
