David Attenborough narrated by Aziz Ansari – our new favourite Netflix glitch

David Attenborough. National treasure. Friend of man and beast alike. Describer of the wonders of the natural world. Not the man you expect to say “I’m pretty sure that women behind the tree is masturbating to us”.
But that did actually happen this week, as a bizarre glitch on Netflix caused the subtitles from one show to get mixed up with another: Planet Earth and Aziz Ansari’s live stand-up special, Live at Madison Square Garden.
Those turning into Episode 7: Great Plains, found not subtitled talk of animals being exposed to elements, but chat about moving to Brooklyn, onanism and commitment. Just the thing to accompany the BBC’s typically stunning footage of wildlife.
The mix-up sent the Internet into a mild frenzy, with one Reddit user (after spotting the original post discovering the error on Facebook) taking to Imgur to screencap as much of it as possible.
How did the technical problem arise? We don’t know, but we do know that Attenborough plus Ansari is worryingly funny.
Sadly (although, for the sake of our national treasure, thankfully) the glitch has since been corrected. When watching Great Plains on Netflix with the subtitles on, all is now right with the world:
But Netflix, though, didn’t waste the chance to join in the fun with their own role-reversal video promoting Master of None, putting Attenborough’s subtitles over the top of Ansari’s original series:
Fun fact: @azizansari's inner monologue is actually just David Attenborough.https://t.co/HDxDCCJ0kg
