Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are getting back together for a new Amazon Studios drama about Nike.
The pair, who famously co-wrote Good Will Hunting and won an Oscar for their work, recently appeared together in The Last Duel, but the new project will see Affleck direct Damon for the first time, as well as star alongside him.
It will follow Sonny Vaccaro (Damon), a maverick sneaker salesman who led a fledgling company called Nike in the 1980s and pursued the iconic athlete Michael Jordan for an endorsement. Affleck will play Nike co-founder Phil Knight as the marketing drama follows their efforts to secure the relationship between the shoe company and the sporting star, a brand partnership that will transform the sneaker industry into the billion-dollar business it is today. Jordan will not be seen in the film, but his presence will be captured by following Sonny’s efforts to reach him by talking to family and friends around him.
The film is written by Alex Convery and had the working title of Air Jordan when the script was included in the 2021 Black List of unproduced screenplays. Affleck and Damon are now doing a pass on the script, with Mandalay Pictures and Skydance Sports producing.
