BBC drops The Traitors US Reunion

BBC iPlayer has dropped a special reunion episode of The Traitors US.
The reality TV thriller is very similar to the UK edition of the show, which sees a group of contestants hole up at a remote castle in Scotland, where there work together to complete challenges and build a prize fund worth up to $250,000. But among the Faithful contestants are the Traitors, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithful and claim the prize for themselves – the Traitors murder the Faithful one by one, while the players try to uncover the Traitors and banish them from the game. A key difference to the US version is that the contestants are a mix of everyday Americans and famous faces from other reality TV shows, which means extra plotting, gameplaying and backstabbing.
The other key difference is that UK version didn’t get a reunion episode, bringing everyone back together after the dust had settled. The 42-minute special, hosted by Andy Cohen, sees the Season 1 cast settle the score on all of the deceptions, murders, banishments and treachery. It is available from this weekend on BBC iPlayer and airs on BBC Three at 8pm on Sunday 5th March.
BBC bags The Traitors US
12th January 2023
While the nation waits for BBC One to officially confirm Season 2 of The Traitors, the Beeb has good news for fans looking for more of the reality TV thriller: it’s bagged the rights to The Traitors US, with the show landing on our screens tomorrow.
The series will see 20 of America’s most cunning contestants, a mix of famous faces and everyday Americans, play the ultimate murder mystery game of deception and suspicion. Hosted by Alan Cumming at an ancient castle in Scotland, they will work together on exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000. But hidden amongst the Faithful contestants are the Traitors, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithful and claim the prize for themselves, all the while remaining undetected. Under the cover of darkness, the Traitors will murder the Faithful one by one, and alongside this treacherous spree the players must try to uncover the Traitors and banish them from the game. If the Faithful contestants banish all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund but if a Traitor makes it to the end, they will steal all the money.
The UK edition of the show – originally a Dutch production called De Verraders – was a huge hit in the run-up to Christmas and has been streamed more than 28 million times on BBC iPlayer. The Beeb’s deal with All3 Media International will see the US series land as a box set on BBC iPlayer on Friday 13th January.
For those wanting a weekly drip-feed of suspense, the series will also be shown on BBC Three and BBC One. It will air on BBC One as double-bills on Wednesday nights at 10.40pm for 5 weeks from 25th January. It will be available on BBC Three across three weeks as follows: Tues 24th Jan, Weds 25th Jan and Thurs 26th Jan, then Mon 30th Jan, Tues 31st Jan, Weds 1st Feb and finally Thurs 2nd Feb, Mon 6th Feb, Tues 7th Feb and Weds 8th Feb.
Dan McGolpin, Director, iPlayer and Channels, says: “Following the huge success of The Traitors, which has been streamed more than 28 million times on BBC iPlayer and was the talk of the nation over the festive period, we’re delighted to give BBC viewers the chance to watch the brand new US series within hours of its release in America. Hosted by the brilliant Alan Cumming and filmed at the same location as the UK series, it’s a new year treat for those seeking out more treachery.”
