Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer for Season 3 of Physical, which returns to our screens this August.
Starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne and created by Annie Weisman, the series is set in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of 1980s San Diego and follows Sheila Rubin (Byrne) as she transforms from quietly tortured housewife to dominant fitness entrepreneur.
In her journey, Sheila battled her way out of an unsatisfying marriage to Danny (Rory Scovel), fostered a dangerous relationship with real-estate mogul John Breem (Paul Sparks), and confronted the dark voices within her own mind that have shamed and suppressed her for so long. With the help of her loyal friend — and now business partner — Greta (Dierdre Friel), Sheila has found confidence and inner-strength though her work as a teacher and entrepreneur with Body by Sheila.
Joining the cast will be Zooey Deschanel in her return to scripted television as rising celebrity exercise goddess Kelly Kilmartin, who becomes not only a professional threat, but manages to get in her head. Will Sheila prevail, or will Kelly’s presence in her life undermine the hard-earned healing and stability that Sheila has worked fought so hard for?
Find out on 2nd August, when the first two episodes of Season 3 premiere on Apple TV+, followed by episodes weekly until the finale on 27th September.
Apple TV+ renews Physical for Season 3
21st August 2022
Hot on the heels of the show’s Season 2 finale, Apple TV+ has officially renewed Physical for a third season.
The half-hour comedy-drama, starring Rose Byrne and created by Annie Weisman, is set in 1980s San Diego, where Sheila Rubin (Byrne), a quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife is battling personal demons relating to her self-image – that is, until she finds an unlikely release through the world of aerobics. Season 2 saw Sheila, having successfully launched her first fitness video, encounter some new and bigger obstacles on her path. She was torn between loyalty to her husband (Rory Scovel), and the values he represents, and a dangerous attraction to someone else – with Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) joining the cast as Vincent “Vinnie” Green, a charismatic fitness instructor and pioneer of the late-night infomercial.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue telling Sheila’s story in creative collaboration with Rose Byrne and the rest of our incredible cast, writers and crew. Rose’s breathtaking, hilarious and brave performance is the North Star on our show’s journey of personal empowerment and transformation in ’80s Southern California in all its synth-pop, sun-baked, spandex-clad glory,” said Weisman. “The feedback we’ve received from audiences who continue to discover and feel seen by Physical is the most deeply gratifying experience of my career and I’m so grateful to our team at Apple and Tomorrow Studios for making this dream a reality.”
