“Another beautiful day in California. Out here, I’m one of the good guys…” That’s the sound of Colin Farrell getting his noir on in new series Sugar – and a new trailer gives us a look at the Apple TV+ series.
Farrell exec-produces the thriller and stars as John Sugar, an American private investigator on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he will also unearth Siegel family secrets; some very recent, others long-buried.
The eight-part series is created by Mark Protosevich, who also executive produces, and directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God, Two Popes), who also executive produces, and Adam Arkin (The Offer), who also co-executive produces.
It co-stars Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Sandman), Amy Ryan (The Wire), James Cromwell (Succession), Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Dennis Boutsikaris (Better Call Saul), Nate Corddry (Mindhunter), Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling), and Alex Hernandez (Invasion).
You can see them in action on Friday 5th April, when the series premieres on Apple TV+, with the first two episodes arriving together – followed by new episodes weekly.
Apple TV+ acquires Colin Farrell series Sugar
16th June 2022
Colin Farrell will give Apple TV+ some Sugar in a new series.
The genre-bending drama is created by Mark Protosevich (“The Cell,” “I Am Legend,” “Thor”), with Colin Farrell (“The Batman,” “True Detective,” “The Lobster”) attached to executive produce alongside Protosevich as well as star in the lead role.
The series is set to be directed by Fernando Meirelles (“City of God,” “Constant Gardner,” “Two Popes”), who will also serve as executive producer, and is executive produced by Simon Kinberg (“X-Men” films, “Deadpool” films, “The Martian”), Audrey Chon (“Invasion,” “The Twilight Zone”) and Scott Greenberg (“The Guilty”). Chip Vucelich also executive produces.
With all that talent behind the camera and Farrell in front, the project sparked a competitive bidding war, with Apple emerging on top with the project. It joins a growing roster of star-led projects on the streaming platform, from Shining Girls, starring Elisabeth Moss, to The Essex Serpent, starring Tom Hiddleston.
