AMC releases first Preacher TV trailer

AMC has released the first trailer for the Preacher TV series.
The show is, of course, based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic book series, which follows Jesse Custer, a small-town preacher in the US who is on a journey to find God. Literally.
Dominic Cooper stars as the man of the cloth, who possesses the kind of power that makes Father Ted look like, well, Father Ted. Dominic is joined by Ruth Negga as Jesse’s ex, Tulip, and an Irish vampire called Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).
A supernatural Preacher, a gun-toting ex, and an Irish vampire? If you’re expecting an insane preview clip to blow your holy socks off, prepare to be surprised: this short glimpse of the series could almost be a scene from a down-to-earth Western with no mention of vampires and powers at all. But there’s certainly enough to intrigue here, not least because it gives Dominic Cooper a rare (and well deserved) chance to take centre stage.
Behind the camera? Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin are producing the adaptation, which is set to debut in the US next year. The other revealing thing from the trailer is that AMC, which has a long tradition of blocking its YouTube videos outside of the US, has made the trailer available globally – a sign that, rather than wait for FOX UK (The Walking Dead) or Netflix UK (Breaking Bad) to release a regional promo, AMC is very likely to broadcast Preacher in the UK on its new home. For those who remember the Fear the Walking Dead premiere on the same channel, you’ll recall that AMC is available exclusively on BT TV for British viewers. On the plus side, that means the usual gap between US and UK broadcasts is likely to be far smaller. More on that as we hear it.
For now, here’s the video:
