Amazon has ordered a stand-up comedy special from Iain Stirling.
The Scottish comedian has seen his star rocket in recent years, thanks to his sarcastic, brash commentary for ITV2’s Love Island. Since then, he had also appeared on Dave’s show Taskmaster and embarked on a tour called Falling Upwards.
Now, Amazon has commissioned a special featuring material recorded from that tour. Avalon will produce the one-hour special, which will be filmed over two performances at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh.
The special continues Amazon’s push into the stand-up comedy arena, which has previously been dominated by Netflix, which, in turn, has raced to overtake HBO’s prominence on the circuit. NextUp, a streaming platform dedicated to stand-up comedy, has also carved out a distinctive space for itself in the VOD market.
Earlier this year, Amazon announced a raft of new comedy specials featuring UK-based talent such as Chris Ramsey, Ed Gamble, Flo & Joan, Jayde Adams, Paul Chowdhry and Rob Delaney.
