Nick Offerman will star in Amazon’s reboot of A League of Their Own.
The 1992 film, directed by Penny Marshall, starred Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. It followed an all-girl baseball team trying to secure a spot in the World Series at a time when all the male professional players were off fighting in WWII. Madonna also starred in the film, alongside Rosie O’Donnell and Lori Petty.
Now, almost 30 years later, Amazon has committed to turning the film into a series, once again following a generation of women who dream of playing pro baseball. The show will explore race and sexuality as well the struggles of the women trying to carve their own paths professionally and personally.
The series is co-created and executive produced by Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, with Jacobson also starring. She will be joined on screen by Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez and Priscilla Delgado, with recurring guest stars Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant and Melanie Field.
Now, Deadline reports another big name has joined the line-up, with Nick Offerman officially signing on for the show.
The Parks and Recreation veteran will play Casey “Dove” Porter, an ex-Cubs pitcher most famous for the time his forkball killed a dove in mid-air during a game. He’s brought in the coach the Rockford Peaches, which he sees as a chance to make a comeback. The role is the equivalent of the part played by Tom Hanks in the original.
Offerman is no stranger to streaming, with upcoming releases including Netflix’s Colin in Black & White and Hulu’s Pam & Tommy.
Amazon orders A League of Their Own series

Amazon has given the green light to a new series based on A League of Their Own.
The 1992 film, directed by Penny Marshall, starred Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. “There’s no crying in baseball, or at Prime Video,” said Vernon Sanders, co-head of television for Amazon Studios, in a statement. “Will and Abbi have taken a classic movie, reimagining it for a new generation with new characters and their own fresh, modern vision on a timeless story of big dreams, friendship, love, and, of course, baseball. We’re so excited to partner with Sony to bring this emotional, exciting new series to our Prime Video customers around the world.”
“28 years ago, Penny Marshall told us a story about women playing professional baseball that up until then had been largely overlooked,” Jacobson and Graham said. “We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else. Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, still overlooked set of those stories. With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life. It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humor for these players to achieve their dreams. We’re hoping to bring audiences a story with all of those qualities.”
