The Shining – 2nd June
Struggling writer Jack and his family move into the deserted Overlook Hotel, only for bad things to happen. But Stanley Kubrick lets the bad things surface slowly, relying on the creepy soundtrack, Jack Nicholson’s unhinged presence and incredibly freaky special effects to set the mood. The masterpiece is so intricately assembled that there’s even a documentary looking at all the conspiracy theories surrounding the movie – including the suggestion that it’s a secret confession to Kubrick helping to fake the moon landing.
Alex Rider – 4th June
The coming-of-age show is based on Point Blanc, the second novel in Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider series of books, which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide and previously inspired the 2006 film Stormbreaker. It stars Otto Farrant as Alex Rider, a London teen who has unknowingly been trained since childhood for the dangerous world of espionage. Pressured to help investigate his uncle’s death, and how it connects to the assassination of two high-profile billionaires, Alex reluctantly assumes a new identity and goes undercover in a remote boarding school called Point Blanc, high up in the French Alps, where something sinister is happening beneath the surface.
Gina Brillon: The Floor is Lava – 5th June
In her third stand up special, The Floor is Lava, Brillon pulls no punches when discussing her childhood, culture and the transition from single to married life with her Midwestern husband. In the hour-long special, Gina effortlessly guides the audience on a journey of love, laughter and heart.
El Presidente – 5th June
A true crime drama series that explores the real-life conspiracy underlying the beginning of the 2015 FIFA Gate corruption scandal.
This is Us: Season 4 – 5th June
Dan Fogelman’s unabashedly sentimental series chronicles the Pearson family across the decades: from Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as young parents in the 1980s to their 37-year-old kids Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown), searching for love and fulfillment in the present day. This grounded, life-affirming dramedy reveals how the tiniest events in our lives impact who we become, and how the connections we share with each other can transcend time, distance and even death.
Living Abroad – 5th June
This four-episode, Spanish-language docuseries will give exclusive access into the private lives of a group of four footballers, including Manchester United’s Juan Mata, who belonged to the Spanish football “Golden Generation” and were part of the acclaimed national team that won the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
Game Night – 10th June
The laughs come thick and fast in this playful black comedy. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (writers of Horrible Bosses and directors of Vacation) pull the strings, while Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams impress as ultra-competitive couple Max and Annie, whose weekly game night spirals dangerously out of control.
Rampage – 10th June
This ludicrous sci-fi action romp sees Dwayne Johnson reprise his unflappable day-saving routine as Davis Okoye, a hunky primatologist called into action when his beloved albino gorilla, George, is infected by a serum developed by a shady gene manipulation company. Before you know it, George and two fellow infectees (a crocodile and a wolf) are monstrously oversized and threatening to level Chicago.
Gulabo Sitabo – 12th June
Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky family comedy depicting day to day struggles of the common man. The movie is written by Juhi Chaturvedi, directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.
The Departed – 12th June
Martin Scorsese’s thrilling, idiosyncratic take on Hong Kong action flick Infernal Affairs is proof that remakes can be better than the original.
Back to the Future – 14th June
One of the great movie trilogies comes to Amazon Prime Video.
Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon – 18th June
Everyone’s favourite stop-motion sheep gets a second feature-length outing.
LOL: Last One Laughing – 19th June
Hosted by Rebel Wilson, this comedy-variety series sees a star-studded cast of 10 Australian comedic actors and stand-ups compete to make each other laugh first. The final one left standing will win the grand prize of AUD$100,000.
Silence of the Lambs – 30th June
Anthony Hopkins is on iconic form as Hannibal Lecter in Jonathan Demme’s chilling, gripping psychological thriller, starring Jodie Foster as FBI agent Clarice Starling trying to track down a serial killer.
The Truman Show – 30th June
Jim Carrey is on career-best form in this witty, poignant satire on reality TV, as one man discovers he’s the star of a series all about his life.
