Trailer: Netflix rides the waves in Resurface

Netflix will be riding the waves this September with a new short documentary, Resurface.
Surfing has become medicine for military veterans suffering from physical and mental trauma. Resurface follows veterans who find that the ocean is the one place they can go to for peace.
Directed by Josh Izenberg and Wynn Padula and produced by Scott Stillman, the 27-minute film focuses particularly on Iraq war veteran Bobby Lane, who wanted to cross surfing off his bucket list before taking his life. Struggling with trauma and depression after his military service, the movie tells Bobby’s story and explores the question: How can surfing change the lives of military veterans?
The film follows Operation Surf, a surfing program that helps traumatised soldiers heal while riding the waves. The short film marks Netflix’s continued push into the short-form documentary arena, a strategy that offers support and exposure to filmmakers in a genre that is all too often overlooked. For the streaming giant, meanwhile, it also means a chance to bag some acclaim, with The White Helmets last year winning Netflix its first Oscar for the powerful short. Resurface premieres on Netflix worldwide on 1st September. Here’s the trailer:
