Clip: Shimmer Lake brings laughs to Netflix’s Memento

Shimmer Lake swims onto Netflix this summer, and now, we have a chance to put our toe in its darkly comic waters.
The crime thriller, which unfolds in reverse time, sounded a lot like Christopher Nolan’s memento, when Netflix snapped up the worldwide rights to the project last year. The first clip from the movie, though, highlights its sense of humour, one that is matched by a cast including Rainn Wilson and John Michael Higgins.
The movie follows a local sheriff hunting three bank robbery suspects, one of whom is his brother. It’s the directorial debut of God Particle’s Oren Uziel, who has also written the film. Uziel’s previous credits include co-writing the screenplay for 22 Jump Street.
The movie arrives on Netflix worldwide on Friday 9th June. Here’s a clip:
Netflix dives into Shimmer Lake
24th September 2016
Netflix is taking a leaf out of Memento’s book with its latest acquisition, Shimmer Lake.
The crime thriller, which is written by Oren Uziel (God Particle), unfolds in reverse, going back day by day through a week, as we follow a local sheriff trying to solve the mystery of three small-town criminals and a bank heist gone wrong.
The movie stars Benjamin Walker, Stephanie Sigman (SPECTRE), Wyatt Russell, and Rainn Wilson, an ensemble that highlights the confidence in the rising filmmaker. Indeed, while Uziel has such credits as the script to 22 Jump Street on his CV, this is Uziel’s directorial debut. It follows his work on God Particle, which stars David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw and is produced by JJ Abrams and has been generating a fair amount of positive buzz.
Shimmer Lake is produced by Britton Rizzio and Adam Saunders and has just finished production. It will be distributed worldwide by Netflix, although there is no release date confirmed yet.
