As Christmas approaches, everyone asks the same question: what’s on TV during the holidays? One festive treat lined up is Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death, which has just released its first trailer.
The crime drama, based on the novels by M C Beaton, stars Ashley Jensen as the eponymous Agatha, who sells her PR firm in London and moves to the Cotsworlds – only to find out that not everything is as perfect as it seemed. When the city girl becomes a suspect in a countryside murder case, Agatha tries to clear her name, and solve the mystery of the quiche of death.
Ashley Jensen comments: “I am absolutely delighted to be on board! It’s not often a part like this comes along for a woman. Agatha Raisin is a strong forthright, independent, driven, successful woman, who is both funny and flawed, a real woman of our time.”
The quirky one-off special airs on Boxing Day at 8.30pm on Sky 1, when it will be available to Sky customers to watch online on Sky Go. For non-Sky customers, it will be available to stream live on NOW for £6.99. The monthly subscription fee currently gives viewers live and on-demand access to Sky TV shows such as The Wire, The Knick and The Walking Dead Season 5. After broadcast on Boxing Day, Agatha Raisin will be available on catch-up on both NOW and Sky On Demand.
Jensen will be joined by Hermione Norris as long-suffering housewife Jo Cummings, Mahew Horne as her former assistant, Jamie Glover as her romantic interest and Robert Bathurst as her errant husband.
Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky 1 HD comments: “Sky 1 has a strong tradition of bringing customers original dramas at Christmas that the whole family can enjoy together. I am hugely excited to welcome Ashley to the channel and hope our customers enjoy watching Agatha’s entertaining journey from PR extraordinaire to enthusiastic quiche crime detective.”
