Trailer: Maul – Shadow Lord debuts this April

Darth Maul will officially be back on our screens this April, and a new trailer gives us a first look at him in action in the Disney+ series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
Created by Dave Filoni, and developed by Dave Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, the animated series follows the Sith leader, who first appears in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. He later returned in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where his connection to the Nightbrothers clan on the planet Dathomir was revealed – and then again in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. He appeared in live-action one more time in prequel movie Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Now, he’s getting a solo series in a series set after the Clone Wars, as we look more closely at a galaxy reshaped by the Empire. Offering a glimpse of the machinations of the underworld playing out in an era near the beginning of Emperor Palpatine’s reign, the series will chart Maul’s plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on Janix, a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may just be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge.
Sam Witwer, who voiced Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and beyond, will play Maul, alongside Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots – the latter duo will also feature in a Marvel Comics prequel series set on Janix.
The series features stylised animation emblematic of the gritty new cityscape locale of Janix combined with old-school filmmaking methods to capture painterly brushstrokes on glass and other physical elements. In addition to the crime syndicates and Maul’s undoubtedly underhanded dealings on Janix, the series will incorporate the burgeoning Empire in the period a few short years after Order 66, with appearances by Marrok — who first appeared in Ahsoka: Season 1 — and the Inquisitorious.
The series will begin with a two-episode premiere on Disney+ on 6th April – followed by two episodes weekly until the finale on 4th May. Here’s the video:
