Netflix’s Stranger Things returned last weekend for Season 2, drawing a reported 15 million viewers in its opening three days alone. Some binge-watched their way through the whole thing in a matter of hours, others are still savouring each episode as it comes – and perhaps watching the after-show, Beyond Stranger Things, on Netflix too. But whether you’re a fast or slow streamer reading along with our binge-reviews, we can all agree on one thing: Sheriff Jim Hopper officially won the web this week.
David Harbour’s Sheriff is perhaps the show’s secret MVP. Grizzled, bearded and good-hearted, he’s the one we follow into spooky dark chambers, the one who helps Eleven at the end of Season 1, and the love interest we all know Winona Ryder’s Joyce deserves. Plus, he looks good in a hat. But if all that wasn’t enough to make you a fan, one scene in Season 2 is guaranteed to, as Hopper puts on a vinyl of Jim Croce’s You Don’t Mess Around With Jim and begins to dance to it in his living room.
Enter the Internet, which promptly took the scene and began replacing the song with any track you could care to mention, sparking a new meme (@hopperdancingto) and even earning David Harbour’s approval in the process.
But don’t take our word for it: here are the 10 best snippets of Hopper’s dad dancing:
