The Leftovers Season 2 will be available to watch online in the UK from Monday 5th October.
Damon Lindelof’s series, based on the novel of the same name, introduced us to a world where a rapture-like event had happened – a supernatural occurrence in which 2 per cent of the globe’s population disappeared. Were they dead? Abducted? Taken up to heaven?
Lindelof, in true Lost fashion, resisted the urge to reveal any answers to the mystery, choosing instead to scrabble around in the soil with those left behind. The result was a surprisingly moving and gripping study of grief and guilt, with the best episodes devoted to its complex characters (the standouts being Christopher Eccleston’s priest and Carrie Coon’s widower with a job to help those remaining).
Justin Theroux returns for the second run as troubled cop Kevin Garvey, who takes the family to a safe place following the events of Season 1. The safe place in question? Jardin, Texas, where everyone has kept their feet firmly on Earth’s soil.
“We are the 9,261,” chant a church. “We are spared.”
Alongside new cast members – such as Regina King’s church member – are several returning faces, including (most promising of all) Eccleston.
Season 2 premieres in the US on Sunday 4th October and Sky has now confirmed a UK air date of Monday 5th October – less than 24 hours after its initial broadcast. New episodes will screen at 10pm on Sky Atlantic, when the show will also be available to watch for non-Sky customers through contract-free VOD service NOW, which costs £6.99 a month and also includes The Walking Dead and Arrow Season 4.
