A Reacher spin-off series is in the works at Amazon Prime Video.
Reacher, which is based on the bestselling books by Lee Child, stars Alan Ritchson as veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher. Written by Nick Santora (Scorpion, Prison Break), who also executive produces and serves as showrunner, the show has become a notable success for Amazon. Season 2 – based on Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in Child’s series of novels – was the most-watched title on Prime Video worldwide during its premiere weekend, with its global audience growing by 50 per cent between seasons in the first three days after the second season’s debut. A third season was rapidly ordered.
Now, following in the footsteps of Amazon’s growing Bosch franchise, Amazon is expanding the Reacherverse, with sources telling Deadline and Variety that a spin-off is being developed, focusing on the fan favourite character Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten in the main series. Neagley is a former comrade of Reacher in the military’s 110th Special Investigations Unit and works in corporate security.
Sten will appear once again in the third season of Reacher, reprising the role, despite the book it’s based on not actually featuring her character. Ritchson, meanwhile, is expected to appear in the spin-off as a guest star.
Santora is reportedly writing the series with Nicholas Wooton, with Lee Child also expected to exec-produce, alongside Don Granger, and Lisa Kussner with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid, Niko Fernandez are expected to oversee the project for Skydance.
