“Leaving me is the worst thing that anyone’s ever done!” That’s the sound of Lena Dunham heading to Netflix for Too Much – and a new trailer gives us a first look at her romantic comedy series.
The show stars Megan Stalter as Jessica, a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties who is reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows. When every block in New York tells a story of her own bad behaviour, the only solution is to take a job in London, where she plans to live a life of solitude like a Bronte sister. But when she meets Felix (Will Sharpe) — a walking series of red flags — she finds that their unusual connection is impossible to ignore, even as it creates more problems than it solves. Now they have to ask themselves: do Americans and Brits actually speak the same language?
The series premieres on Netflix on 10th July. Here’s the trailer:
Netflix inks creative partnership with Lena Dunham
2nd February 2025
Netflix has signed a first-look deal with Lena Dunham.
The streamer significantly transformed the entertainment landscape when it started to ink exclusive creative agreements with major talents, such as Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes. In more recent years, it has scaled back its spending, amid budget pressures and rising production costs.
Nonetheless, it has signed a new deal with Dunham for the creator of Girls to develop serialised projects through her production company Good Thing Going.
Founded by Dunham in 2018 and co-helmed by Michael P Cohen, Good Thing Going supports artist-led work.
“My producing partner Michael P Cohen and I are deeply excited to begin the next phase of Good Thing Going with Netflix as our home, one that supports artists and makes so many of the shows that we love as viewers,” Dunham said in a statement. “From the first chat with our Netflix team, we have been aligned in the vision to lean into classic genres and serve them up with a twist, always informed by surprising points of view.”
Their partnership with begin with Too Much, a 10-episode rom-com about a New Yorker who moves to London.
“Netflix has been so deeply supportive of the vision, which is to create a romantic comedy that makes us root for love, brings joy but also has the jagged edges of life,” Dunham added.
“Lena’s authenticity and singular voice have redefined storytelling for this generation,” commented Jinny Howe, vice president of drama series at Netflix. “She’s a creative powerhouse, weaving together complex and nuanced narratives that are as thought-provoking as they are entertaining.”
