Matt Berry’s Michael Squeamish returns to BBC Two

Matt Berry is returning to BBC Two with four more documentaries from his rogue historian Michael Squeamish.
Michael Squeamish presented Road To Brexit last year on the BBC, a documentary that was comprised of archive footage. With filming on new productions a far from easy proposition amid the coronavirus pandemic, Squeamish is coming back to present four more surreal educational films by plundering the Beeb’s video library.
The four-part run will cover a range of subjects:
Entertainment
From pigeon-racing to progressive jazz, beauty contests to the Buzzcocks, Squeamish takes us on an alternative journey through British culture, stopping at music hall, the scene, and Joy Division along the way.
Relationships
From what to order on a first date to how to alert someone to the fact that you fancy them, Squeamish offers advice and guidance based on research, and his own opinions.
London
From the Great Fire to the Blitz, jellied eels to Howard Westend, after whom the West End is named, he takes a closer look at Britain’s capital and the people who live there.
The countryside
From Stonehenge to the rights and rituals of the Druids, May Day festivals to the still-popular pastime of gurning, he offers some distinctive opinions on Britain’s farmlands.
Squeamish About… is an Objective Fiction production for BBC Two. It’s written by Arthur Mathews and Matt Berry. The producer is Hannah Mackay and the executive producer is Ben Farrell.
The series will premiere on Thursday 6th August at 10.30pm on BBC Two, with episodes airing weekly and whole box set available immediately on BBC iPlayer.
