Global Stages: Royal Albert Hall joins free online festival

The Royal Albert Hall is opening its virtual doors this week to join in with Global Stages, a free online festival.
The two-day event is a collaboration between the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Shanghai Concert Hall, Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam, and the LA Philharmonic. Recorded while the venues’ doors are closed, the series of online performances give audiences a taste of what will be on offer when their doors open to welcome people in-person once again.
Recorded across a variety of empty spaces throughout the Royal Albert Hall, the concert will feature Ballet Black’s Cira Robinson, singer-songwriter Tom Odell, opera star Sir Bryn Terfel and Spice Girl Melanie C. Captured by director Raja Virdi, the performances range from the roof of the venue to the basements, with other performances throughout the building including new pop acts Maisie Peters, Holly Humberstone, and Baby Queen, as well as spoken word and poetry by Sophia Thakur, Henry Stone and Samuel West.
The Royal Albert Hall’s concert will stream worldwide on 7pm on Friday 21st May. Here’s a teaser for the concert – read on below for the full festival line-up.
