Emmys 2025: Severance, The Penguin, Adolescence lead the nominees
VOD News | On 19, Jul 2025
The 20025 Emmy nominations have been announced, and Severance is leading the race, after the much-hyped second season of the Apple TV+ satire.
Severance has 27 nods in total, including Outstanding Drama, Lead Actor in a Drama for Adam Scott, Lead Actress in a Drama for Britt Lower, a trio of Supporting Actor in a Drama nods (Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman and John Turturro), plus Supporting Actress in a Drama for Patricia Arquette. Directing nods have gone to both Jessica Lee Gagné and Ben Stiller, while creator Dan Erickson is up for Outstanding Writing for a Drama.
The Penguin is the second most-nominated series, with 24 nominations – including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, plus Outstanding lead actress for Cristin Milloti and Outstanding Lead Actor for Colin Farrell.
The Penguin’s limited series nod will see it compete against FX’s Dying for Sex, Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Netflix’s Black Mirror and the other key player in this year’s race: Netflix’s Adolescence.
The timely series, starring Stephen Graham, has made Emmys history by nominating Owen Cooper in the Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series category – while he’s nominated alongside co-star Ashley Waters, he’s also one of the youngest ever male performers to be nominated.
The show has a total of 13 nominations, which puts it behind The White Lotus (23 nods), The Studio (23 nods), The Last of Us (16) and Andor (14), but the show promises to continue being as buzzy as ever all through the awards race.
Severance’s success, meanwhile, leads a huge slate for Apple TV+, with The Studio joining The Bear for having the most comedy nominations in a single year at the Emmys, and Shrinking, which has earned Harrison Ford his first ever Emmy nomination at the tender age of 83.
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented on 14th September. Here’s the full list of nominees:
